The Democrats’ Antisemitism is on Full Display
The American Left’s lack of support for Israel and funding of its enemies are to blame for this explosive conflict
FOR DAYS, ISRAELI CITIZENS have faced a barrage of terror attacks from a regime that wishes to eradicate them from existence. Being an American ally, one should expect the United States to remain steadfast in its support of its peaceful partner in the Middle East. One could even make the mistake of assuming the United States shouldn’t have had a role in funding the regime responsible for the attacks. Unfortunately, assumptions like this have no place when the Democratic party is running the show.
First, some background: The current conflict between Israel and the Palestinian terror groups, Hamas and the Islamic Jihadists, is said to have flared up over the weekend following two separate events. The first is a pending court decision regarding the ownership of a smattering of homes in Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
Currently, four Palestinian families face eviction if the court’s assumed ruling, that the homes belong to Israeli claimants, goes through. If Hamas’ launching of more than 1,500 rockets seems like a bit of a heavy-handed response to a property dispute, that is because it is. It is also not the real reason. But more on that in a moment.
The second purported factor leading to the bombing of Israel concerns Palestinian riots at the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Access to the holy site was decreased to COVID-19 restrictions when Palestinians started throwing rocks and other items at Israeli police to demand greater access to the site. As it turns out, though, the site was not only being used as a place of prayer but, as a search of the mosque found, it was instead being used to store items to use as weapons against Israeli authorities.
This is where the real theory of increased Palestinian aggression comes in. As The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday, Mahmoud Abbas, who runs the Palestinian-controlled region of the West Bank, has been facing sagging poll numbers and a leadership challenge from Hamas and other extremist groups. In response to this, Abbas’ party has stated that it “calls on everyone to raise the level of confrontation in the coming days and hours in the Palestinian lands.” Nothing like calling for violence to please those whose explicit goal is the destruction of Israel.
All of this raises the question of why the escalation of this conflict now? Abbas has been in charge of the Palestinian Authority for over 15 years without standing for reelection. That means the conclusion to the aforementioned question is that Abbas knows the progressive Democrats rule the roost at the Biden White House, making now a good time to strike.
When President Biden took office, he promised that he would reenter the ineffective and disastrous Iran nuclear deal. A deal that, in 2021, a time with when the country has been for years stockpiling enriched uranium, is already obsolete. Pair this deal with the fact that the Biden administration has already set the precedent that it will rejoin toxic deals with groups such as the World Health Organization without demanding any contingencies, and you have the makings of a future toothless agreement.
Biden coupled this desire to please Iran, a nation that has consistently failed to act moral country when granted any leeway, with the restoration of money to Palestine. Suffice it to say, with American dollars pouring into both Iran and Palestine, you can bet that the rockets being fired at Israel are paid for with good ol’ American dollar bills — not to mention the recent attacks on American naval vessels performed by fast boats owned by the Iranian navy.
Nevertheless, progressives in the Democratic party are calling for more terrorist-sponsored bloodshed. Ilhan Omar (D. Minn) is renewing calls to divest U.S money from Israel; Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, also of “the squad,” tweeted in response to Biden saying Israel has right to defend itself that, “by only stepping in to name Hamas’ actions — which are condemnable — & refusing to acknowledge the rights of Palestinians, Biden reinforces the false idea that Palestinians instigated this cycle violence.” Right. Israel must just be testing the capabilities of its Iron Dome defense system.
AOC continued her tweet by saying, “This is not neutral language. It takes a side — the side of occupation.”
One cannot hold both the belief that Hamas’ actions are condemnable and also call the nation of Israel an occupying force. The former is just for show; the latter is her true belief. Of course, AOC is partially correct: It is not neutral language. The Biden administration’s failure to call Palestinian aggression anything other than terrorism is to embolden the groups that wish death upon Israel and the West.
And make no mistake, Palestinian aggression is terrorism, and hardline tactics against these groups work. First, there is no moral equivalency between the actions of Israel and Palestine. Despite the claim from Bernie Sanders, Israel’s tactics are not “irresponsible actions of government-allied right-wing extremists.” They are, in fact, quite the contrary.
Israel, unlike Hamas and the Islamic Jihadists, is not firing thousands of rockets at civilians. Instead, Israel is attempting to perform precision strikes at weapons sites and, as a rule, attempts to minimize civilian casualties. When the Israeli Defense Forces do target areas such as high-rise buildings used by Hamas leadership, they try to call civilians to advise them to evacuate and perform “roof knocks” on homes that could be hit as a warning.
The blame for civilian injuries should not fall on Israel but should instead fall on the cowardly Hamas, who will use innocent bystanders as shields. It is a well-known fact that Hamas will use residential neighborhoods, crowds, and even hospitals to deter attacks from the West. This should render the blood of the innocent squarely on these morally bankrupt Jihadists.
The moral of this story is that a period of peace was coming to the Middle East during the Trump administration following the Abraham Accords. This was because of renewed American support for a noble alley. This time of war is coming because of a weak President who is afraid of the anti-Semites in his party.
